We have some instructors gearing-up to take in our trainee Ocean Divers for their open-water drills. Capernwray offers excellent underwater topography down to 20m suitable for trainee divers. Sunken wrecks of planes, boats, cars and other objects, together with the famous friendly sturgeon and trout gives added interest for all divers.
There is a well stocked shop and they rent-out kit.
Expect water temperatures around 10-11C – and accordingly dive times of 30 to 40 minutes.
We normally use the Truckhaven accommodation, within 10 minutes drive of the dive site – clean, warm rooms, canteen food and bar. £42.50/single, £58/twin. This is very popular with dive schools and is likely to get fully booked.
There is a Travelodge nearby, however a car break-in was reported last year with all dive kit lost.
Alternatively Morecambe offers budget hotels and a range of pubs/restaurants, although car parking will probably be limited to on-street, with the risk of break-ins.
Other options members have used are local pubs or sharing a static caravan.
Cafe on site. The staff are friendly and do not object to us in using their facilities in our dry-suits.
