Our dive boat named NEDSAC2, is a 6.5m RIB (rigid-hulled inflatable boat) which has a Mercury Optimax 135hp outboard engine. It can safely transport up to 8 divers plus a cox, cruising at around 25 knots.
It is fully equipped with a marine VHF radio, Garmin echo sounder and GPS chart plotter for real time navigation to any site we plan to dive. It is also equipped with all required safety equipment including compass, anchors, flares, first aid and Oxygen administration kits.
It is kept ashore at a secure location local to the club, on its trailer, ready for towing anywhere in the UK. We also use it for boat handling instruction and courses.
Using the club boat allows us the freedom to visit dive locations and sites that otherwise may not be available to us, either due to no commercial dive boats operating in the area, or those boats not generally visiting the sites we wish to dive.
It also allows our members to experience diving from a RIB, and to actually get to handle a powerboat under direct supervision from our experienced instructors. Undertaking a formal boat handling course is also an option within our club as previously mentioned.
