Minimum Diving Grades
Open to all for shore diving, shuttle boat dives require a minimum of Advanced Ocean Diver.
The beach at Porthkerris faces East and is protected from the prevailing SW winds.
Just offshore from the beach is a reef and series of rocks that can easily be reached from a short surface or underwater swim. Last year we witnessed numerous octopuses and wrasse, as well as crab, blennies, pollack, gurnard, bass and anemones.
If you choose to use the shuttle boat the Manacles Reef is a mile offshore and the final resting place for dozens of ship wrecks. Other sites can be reached with the shuttle boat.
This year we shall be doing some snorkeling, perhaps from different beaches.
Should the wind come from the East we will have to drive 30 minutes to the other side of the Lizard for shelter.
We will have good tides – the dates miss Spring tides.
We hope to organize a visit to the local lifeboat station, and hopefully witness a practice launch.
Porthkerris divers has an air station, kit wash-down area, beach cafe, toilet and shower facilities. All the staff are friendly and freely offer advice.
Expect water temperatures around 15C – and accordingly dive times of 40 to 45 minutes.
The beach really is a lovely spot and there are opportunities for coastal walks to other villages. We quickly booked the accommodation after this year’s trip and picking suitable tides. As at November we have 8 confirmed names for the trip.
Some will be either renting accommodation from Porthkerris Divers – or bringing their camper to the site.
If you need to share accommodation let others know so you can book-up. Last year we left it very late to book and we ended up with a short stay, the center is very popular.
Self catering, with some group meals in nearby village pubs. Hopefully we can have a bbq on the beach.
for accommodation is £60/night for two sharing, £40 each if 4 share. Camping £15/night or £22 for a hook-up.
Boat diving £45/dive.
